HCM system maintenance - System will be temporarily unavailable on Sunday, August 5th at 7:30 am

Information Technology Services will be performing a special backup of the HCM application system starting at 7:30am on Sunday, August 5th, 2007. It is expected to take 30 minutes to one hour. HCM should be available to the campus by 8:30am.

WebDrive Now Available

WebDrive for Windows is now available from the Software Center.

WebDrive provides FTP Client capabilities without the need for running a separate FTP software application. By using the instantly familiar interface of a drive letter, WebDrive enables you to store and edit files on FTP Servers, or SFTP and WebDAV servers as easily as you store and edit files stored on your local hard drive.

Fetch For Macintosh Available For Download

Fetch 5.2.1 for Macintosh is now available for download on the Case Software Center. Fetch is a Macintosh program for transferring files over networks, such as the Internet, using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).

Fetch 5 includes all the standard features of a modern FTP/SFTP client, presented in a user interface that is simple and easy to use.

Fetch can be used to:

  • Publish a website at a web hosting provider.
  • Rename, move, delete, and change the permissions of files on a web server in order to maintain a website.
  • Publish images for eBay auction listings.
  • Transfer documents to a printing company or service bureau.
  • Submit advertisements to newspapers and magazines.
  • Move files between your Macintosh and other computers or specialized equipment.

Fetch is compatible with a wide range of FTP, SFTP, and FTP with TLS/SSL (FTPS) servers, from mainframes and high-end servers to Macintosh, UNIX, Windows, and Netware computers, and even servers in prepress systems, image editing systems, photo processing equipment, and medical imaging systems.

New Software Center And Product Updates

The Software Center portal has been completely redesigned and updated, for an improved user experience and improved reliability. The updated design offers users a cleaner, more organized look which should make the Software Center easier to use.

In addition to the improved portal, the Software Center has updated and added the following products:

  • Windows Vista - Windows Vista is the latest version of Windows from Microsoft. Introduced in 2007, Vista contains many new features and upgrades over Windows XP.
  • Spark IM Client - Updated to version 2.5.4. The Spark IM client for Case is the preferred instant messaging client for the Case campus.
  • Symantec AntiVirus - Updated to version 10.1.6 for Non-Vista machines. It is recommended that all users on campus, that have machines running a version of Windows other than Vista, update to 10.1.6.

  • Spark IM Client Update To Version 2.5.4

    The Spark IM Client, available from the Software Center, has been update to version 2.5.4. The Spark IM Client is available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux. We recommend that all users of the Spark IM Client update to this latest version.

    The Spark IM client for Case is the preferred instant messaging client for the Case campus.

    Matlab R2007a Toolbox Update

    The Software Center has updated the Simulink, Bioinformatics and Stateflow toolbox for use with Matlab R2007a. Downloads are available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux users.

    To download the toolbox update, click on the Matlab R2007a download button from the Software Center’s “Additional Software” section found on the main page. Then, after the jump, click on the appropriate toolbox update link for your particular operating system.

    Vista Information Page

    The Software Center has released a Vista Information Page, which outlines our plan for Vista distribution, and shares important information you need to know before installing Vista. We expect to deploy Vista via the Software Center in July 2007. The Vista Information Page can be viewed by logging into the Software Center and clicking on “NEW! Vista Information”, found in the gray box titled “Case Software Center Links” on the left side of the Software Center page.

    Acrobat 8 Now Vista Compatible

    Acrobat 8 for Windows is now Vista compatible if the Acrobat 8.1 patch is installed. To update Acrobat, the recommended way is to use the automatic update function of Acrobat to download and install the patch. You may also go to the Software Center’s Acrobat 8 Professional download page and download the patch from there.

    Snap With Scanning Updated To Version 9

    Snap With Scanning has been updated to version 9. Snap With Scanning can be found in the Software Center’s “Additional Software” area and is available for download at $250 per license. Previous purchasers are entitled to a free download to update their systems. Snap With Scanning is available for Windows only.

    The Snap ProNet Edition is a stand alone software package incorporating paper, phone, e-mail and web surveys. With Snap ProNet you can design and publish your questionnaire, enter data and analyze results using tables and charts. You can print paper questionnaires for postal or face-to-face interviews or conduct telephone, e-mail or web-based surveys.

    The Snap Scanning Module is an add on to Snap Professional Edition enabling users to scan in completed paper questionnaires. Snap Scanning Module is based on OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and OMR (Optical Mark Recognition). Snap will also scan in questionnaires designed in other software packages.

    Touch the Technology event - Monday, May 14th, 2007

    Case Faculty and Staff are invited to “Touch the Technology” on Monday, May 14th from 10AM until 12 noon in Thwing Center’s Ballroom. The purpose of the event is for Faculty and Staff to learn about the latest mobility technology trends.

    * University partners Sprint-Nextel, Dell and PerceptIS will be on hand to discuss technology and applications.

    * Time Warner High Speed Internet will be available for signups and to answer questions.

    * Features and functionality of the Voice over IP phone system and unified messaging will be shared.
